Hog's Breath

Happy birthday to (i) My brother (ii) Celes!!

With a good booze party at St James last night (celes, if you have the photo of me,you and louise, pls send me!), I had taken a lot of care to make sure that I am sober enough to play the semis today, loading up on vit B before and after all the booze, and making sure that I am hydrated from the moment I woke up.

But..人算不如天算。Semis was cancelled cos of lightning (rain wasn't that much of a concern) during the 16th min. Thought can laze around for Sunday..but in the end have to go through the whole routine of warming up and playing the remaining 59mins tomorrow :/
(and I had to handwash my gears tonight to catch the morning sun for it to be dried by the time I head out!!)

But then it meant that we have extra time today for a good dinner :p

So we ended up at

All I can say is..it's really quite aussie fare - lots of fried stuff/mayo aplenty/beetroot(!)/BIG PORTIONS

but I didn't count on them having a sense of humour in putting "fireworks" onto steak sandwiches..

“残局”after the dinner

I feel so sinful and gelak now.........plus the fact that I will sleep early today cos the eyebag situation is getting bad, esp with drinking and late night yesterday -.-"
But then there is this VCD that I want to watch :p
hmm...tough decision. Sleep or watch VCD?

Prince Caspian

Got a ticket for the charity screening of Prince Caspian, organised by the National Foundation for Digestive Diseases (NFDD).

I bought the whole series of Chronicles of Narnia before "The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe" screened, so I have read the stories. I recalled "TLWW" was quite true to the actual book, so it was really enjoyable to watch and have visuals of all the images conjured up going through the pages of the book.

Not so for Prince Caspian (PC).

Something didn't seem right from the start of the film, when a baby was borned to the evil aunt, and Prof Cornelius went to wake PC up..okiieee...what happened to his nanny, who was the one who piqued his curiosity about the land beyond the north, about the ambiguity of Miraz cruelty to PC (which started to show when he removed the nanny forcefully), to Prof Cornelius revelation that he's of dwarf-human blood and all the private tuition to PC?!?

And the wrong things came up throughout the show.

The horn was blown at the wrong time; we never got to see Trumpkin's kind yet steadfast character; the group never sieged the palace in the actual story; Prof Cornelius played a bigger role in planning the battles; Peter is never a conceited and rebellious fella; Susan and PC never had anything going throughout the original story!

SUPER FRUSTRATING.

It's one thing to drum up details to make a show more exciting, but it's another thing to twist the whole story to make it so different from the original novel, which from its simplicity, there is a reason for characters playing their roles, saying what they were supposed to say..

If you are ok with spending 2 hours plus watching an action packed fantasy movie, this movie will prob score ok with you. However if you enjoyed the book and found inspiration from the simple story which told of courage, friendship, faith..you will be sorely disappointed, and prob end up like me - with a look of disbelief throughout the whole show.

Impromptu Shopping Spree

I went shopping and grabbed 2 dresses, 1 skirt, 1 cardi and 2 tops within 2 hours.

Whee!! :D

I have not even gone to town center. Which I plan to go one of these days and check out the sales for work clothes. Maybe I should have waited till then, but well, I saw what I like, and I liked what I saw in the fitting room.

Maybe it was at the back of my mind that I was thinking of the 4 wedding dinners which I have to attend, 3 of which are colleagues kind..so I guess that I prob cant wear that dress I bought for Ori's wedding (It's the kind that needs tapes to prevent wardrobe malfunctioning- go figure) in case I bumped into bosses and feels super underdressed.

(wondering which, I guess I wont get to see the photo of myself in that dress during the table shots until the newly-weds come back from honeymoon..hope that I dont have to wait for 1 year like the last one I attended!)

hmmm.. so I need something! Or at least store up something so I dont have to do last min frantic shopping!

Anyway, the dresses which I tried are anything but..instead I am sure that they are perfect for

(i) party
(ii) imaginery sunday brunch (imaginery cos I know that none of my friends do sunday brunches or at least anything which requires dressing up..and I will probably still be sleeping)
(iii) weekend shopping (which is getting really rare nowadays. I may still tog out in t-shirts and shorts even if I do)

Looking forward to HK for G2000 and Malina for work clothes. Before that, there is still shops to check out during this GSS.

But first, I need shoes for the dresses...

Daft Punk

I finally found my Daft Punk CD.

Anyway I started on the hunt for daft punk CD after chancing upon the Interstella 5555 on youtube. Go watch all 13 parts.

DIdn't realise it was so difficult to find..and then just as I chancing by tiong bahru, it was just on the shelf. Or maybe I was looking at all the wrong places to start with.

Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger - I hope..today's found that having a stiff back for too long really affect the turning agility. Semis next weekend!

Playing on radio now is Sodagreen's 陪我歌唱, twin CDs -one studio and live.

I am turning to songs more when I need solace.

Childhood in Modern Times

Met up with an ex-colleague for lunch today. Ex meaning that he has tendered and left for better prospect.

So it was lunch and talk cock, about people we knew, and how life has been recently for both of us. And of course I ask how his family was.

Like clockwork he took out his phone and go "Nah..see cute right?" And in my face was a photo of his wife and daughter (about 1 and a half year old) (Yes, "cute" refers to the daughter, not the wife)

"So cute! " (what else do you expect me to reply..but ok la, his girl really quite cute :p)

And then he started telling me that his daughter is going for some japanese enrichment classes on sat.

"HUH?! What japanese enrichment class? Need meh?"

"OK la, she enjoy can already"

"Oh..so you two can leave her in class then go pak tor right?"

"No la..the parents must be around with her..bonding mah."

"But she so young..she understand meh?"

"Ok la..if not will lose out a lot one you know. You remember xxxx? He told me that when his elder daughter started school, the teacher told him that his daughter slower than the rest ..they can only afford to slow down the class for her by so much. So now he send his younger daughter to all the enrichment classes also. Better lor"

"Oh..when his elder daughter went kindergaten arh?

"No, playschool"

HatchDay! - Part 2

My thoughts exactly :p
I haven't really been looking forward to today actually..so I more or less cringed when I see greetings coming in as early as last week (the wonder of digital life...and birthday calender application in facebook).
Reason is that I am turning 30.
If I had a choice, I would choose to stay around 26/27. Still a bit fresh into society, more hopeful, yet having enough to explore more activities other than work.
But anyway, I decided to heck care with it. I have a feeling that life is starting to pick up somewhat since the last few years, just that the last few months were a bit turbulent. But I survived..with scars, but I survived nonetheless. Just need time to catch my breath and continue with the journey. And learning to trust again.
So today after lunch I popped by Cold Storage and grabbed some wine..now sipping Moscato (although I would have wished to have Auslese...*hint hint!*) so at least there is something nice to start the day/night (whatever..) :)
And please let me have a smooth game tmr! (why so suay..kena such a tough game on my birthday and 3pm some more :(( )

HatchDay!- Part 1

Actually I really almost forgot that it's May-tenth. Of course I know that May was looming by end April..but that was only because of the big work event which everybody was counting down to. But then after that..it was more like..huh? oh..it's next sat huh?

Anyway..

Had arranged with Junzi to go eat Botak Jones. Been hearing about it but never had the chance to try out at the clementi branch last time cos it was always super crowded! Since last week already flew aeroplane once..so wanted to do this week. So it was a date with Mr Botak
My black pepper chicken :D

Junzi's cheese burger w/o any sides (I wonder how come she can eat so little :/)
The food is not bad..I especially like their fries. There are also other stalls selling other interesting stuff like one stall selling belgian waffles (and yummy looking brownies!) and the pasta stall which used to be at anchorage (cant remember it's name)

Will go back again..to try the yummy brownies! :p

But looking at their cash register..think botak jones has gone beyond just your normal neighbourhood western food stall..

Anyway..

caught up on the latest gossip with Junzi..but then very coincidentally, 郭老师(who is here to visit) 提点了,八卦的定义,是一个新闻,有八个版本 :/
所以说与其聊八卦, 不然讲对未来有用的事..

突然间,觉得好想好想,有机会帮身边的朋友, 做点,帮点什么...

Hangover from Work

I cant believe it. It has been the 2nd day after. The big work event that is. But I was so unexplainably tired. Possibly from the dreamful state of sleep which seem to be getting worse recently (I have 2 persons who told me that I could have written a book from all the kind of dreams I have been getting the past few years).

But today was exceptionally bad in that when my alarm rang at 7am, I literally could't move and went back to another hour of fitful sleep before I registered that I am going to be late if I dont move from the bed. And even then I was like 1 qtr awake+ 3 qtr still in lala-land in the shower. And I had already slept in the day before. Woke up at 9am and just lie in bed till 12pm. And it was a struggle during the training last night when I was constantly tearing from tiredness.

This is bad.

It seems that I am not the only one. One colleague commented that she dreamt of another colleague she had paired up with for the event (I had actually dreamt that my vendor called me and asked if I had any more changes for the vidoe =.="). Another said that she felt like she had a mother of a hangover.

Scary...I never had this kind of experience even when I was organising events last time.

Wondering what is so different this time round :/

I need to recover soon..big game this sat.

Spontaneity

A dinner of crackling pork (something like sio-bak ang mo style) after a work committment led me and my colleage visiting our vendors till late...I had actually wanted to rush back office to finish up whatever I had left, but you can't fight a rumbling stomach at 10pm, coupled with a tired aching soul which just want to have a nice dinner once in a while.

It was a good dinner at Harbour Cafe (or something that sounds like that), which I had been before with Mao's mummy. And the company was good :))

Looking at the whole process of how this project had led me, I was initially quite worried how it will turn out, given the horror stories from past years' doers. But it didn't turn out too bad (or as I was mentioning "as painful as I thought"). In fact, it was quite a fresh breath of air working with people whose work nature is different from what I do everyday, where every suggestion is a possibility instead of additional work.

And it helped that the person whom I ended up pairing to work with is a pain-in-the-ass kinda meticulous ..cos at least he is sharp enough to spot things that I usually wouldn't and I am greatful. Whereas I am task-oriented enough to hit all the necessary milestones.

I kind of miss those days in my first job in the events company..where everything is more spontaneous (but spontaniety also = your boss play 'ninja' aka the disappearing act during the event itself, leaving you to come up with solutions on the spot -.-")

If only I can order a real beer instead of root beer to finish off that sio-bak..before going back office (which I regretted..I should have brought all my barang barang along and go home straight from there..)
